Ways Our City is Making a Difference

Student in Government Day
- Held in the Spring of each year, Student in Government Day provides an opportunity for 17 Senior High School Students to learn about their municipal government in a hands on fashion. The students spend a day working with counterparts addressing a community issue. During the evening session they handle an agenda item during a portion of a regular Council meeting. One of the highlights of the day is a tour of the wastewater treatment facility adjacent to the Feather River.

Landlord Training
- Approximately 40% of residential units in the City of Gridley are rentals. The maintenance of rental units has a significant impact on each neighborhood. The City in cooperation with other housing groups sponsors training sessions for landlords that outline their responsibilities to effectively manage their property.

Recreation Department
- Gridley has a year round recreation program that utilizes parks and schools. Activities include soccer, wrestling, basketball and a variety of classes and activities. Activities are advertised in the Gridley Herald and through Youth First.
- Partnering with CATAPULT: Youth Leaders for the Great Valley
- This program is designed for high school students during an 11-month program to pursue higher education interests, research public issues, find ways to address community problems, and to learn how government can be an ally.

Code Enforcement
- Code enforcement is a necessary activity to maintain safe neighborhoods. The City’s Code Enforcement Officer investigates complaints about such matters as unsafe conditions, accumulation of garbage and debris, and abandoned vehicles that contribute to blight. The Officer is able to issue warning letters and citations as necessary to bring property into compliance. In extreme cases legal action is taken.

- The City recently purchased land (located on the West side of Washington Street, between Hazel and Spruce for a park. Discussions are underway about designating a portion of the park for skateboard use. The City has also obtained State funding for a portion of the facility. Interested residents can contact Recreation Coordinator, Malanee Montero, about the project.

Community Meetings
- Residents have a number of opportunities to participate in their City government.. These include City Council meetings at 7:00 p.m. on the first and third Mondays of each month and Planning. Agendas are posted on the City of Gridley website. The public has an opportunity to participate in discussions about a variety of issues. The council also uses these meeting to recognize some of the great achievements of the youth in our community.
- The city also occasionally holds other community meetings in repsonse to events or needs in the community. Youth First came out of one such meeting.

Supporting Youth First
- The City of Gridley is passionate about it's youth and their potential. They see the beautiful future ahead of us, and are working hard to make sure it is a reality. All of the funding for Youth First is provided by the City of Gridley. We couldn't do what we do without their support.
- The city also is very supportive of all the activities sponsored and promoted by Youth First, including moving their City Council Meeting for the Family Night held each October.
