Small & Simple Things
Want to help build assets in our youth at school? We have lots of ideas.
Ways Our Schools are Making a Difference
Character Education
- The Gridley Unified School District has incorporated the Search Institutes 40 developmental assets through out the school district in our efforts to support positive adult/student interactions. The character education instruction is incorporated into our everyday lessons. The Gridley Unified School District has identified nine essential assets we will work on for the 2007-2008 school year.
- A group of teacher leaders have developed a schedule of classroom lessons for each of the key assets. The lessons are part of our already excellent instructional program offered our students.
- The entire staff of the Gridley Unified School District participated in a full day workshop on the 40 developmental assets. The day of training was meaningful in our efforts because of the great presentation by Clay Roberts. Staff members have been incorporating the skills and techniques learned in August in their everyday lessons and support for our students.

Community Collaboration
- Each month the Gridley Unified School District will focus on a particular asset. We invite the community to join us in focusing on building these assets in our youth by doing some simple things that build the assets we will be talking about that month in our schools.

Make a Difference Bracelets
- The Gridley Unified School District has adopted a program of recognizing the caring actions of our students. Staff members are presenting two “I Make A Difference” bracelets to any student witness in an act of kindness and caring. The students are encouraged to wear one of the bracelets and to give the other one to another student when they witness an act of kindness.
Better Communication with Parents
- Parents receive a montly letter outlining the asset of the month with details about activities that can be done at home to support the asset. If you would like a copy of this communication please contact your child’s school or the Gridley Unified School District
