Alternatives to Gangs
Keep the Peace
Community gang training is an ongoing Youth First project. We are ready to move forward with another presentation and focus more specifically on providing families with intervention strategies. The next event will be held on May 20 at the Catholic Church.
The presentation will center around Smiley, Tony Hernandez. He is a former gangster who works with Barrios Unidos and does local anti-gang presentations. His style is very in-your-face and focuses on getting parents and kids to understand the consequences of gang life. Smiley’s presentation also focuses on becoming empowered through embracing your culture.
Following Smiley's presentation there will be bilingual counselors avaialbe to talk to families about specific solutions for the individual situations.
There will also be a free meal provided after the 12:00 Mass for those who will be attending the presentaiton.
Join us for this important event, as our community comes together to support families and keep our community safe.
